During my time at Opaque, each project presented unique learning opportunities, particularly in manufacturing. From the moment we began production on my first designed project, I was immersed in a world of intricate processes and techniques. Each design came with its own challenges, requiring adaptability and problem-solving. I vividly remember working closely with lathe artisans to produce components within a set budget, a task that demanded negotiation, precision, and creativity.
Observing and understanding the art of screen printing was another highlight—it was a fascinating process, from overcoming color restrictions to ensuring the designs were suitable for various products. Learning about metal frame fabrication, including welding and powder coating, was equally insightful, as these frames formed the foundation for weaving. Every stage of production, from concept to completion, was a testament to collaboration and innovation, making the manufacturing journey both educational and rewarding.
